Totality Over Andalusia

Experience the 2027 Total Solar Eclipse in Southern Spain

Come for the eclipse, stay for Andalusia. A 2027 total solar eclipse journey in southern Spain.

Some places are worth traveling to. Some moments are worth traveling for. On August 2, 2027, Andalusia becomes the stage for one of nature’s rarest spectacles: a total solar eclipse. For an unforgettable moment, daylight fades, the sky transforms and the sun vanishes behind the moon—a moment made richer when shared with fellow travelers in one of Spain’s most fascinating regions.

But this journey is about far more than the eclipse. From your whitewashed home base of Priego de Córdoba, you’ll spend a week where Muslim, Jewish and Christian worlds once met—a meeting you can still read in the arches of the Mezquita-Catedral (Mosque-Cathedral), the tilework of the Alhambra and the cliff-edge streets of Ronda. Your UnGuide is with you throughout, connecting you to the rhythms of local life beyond the major sights.

How is this different from a regular UnTour?

  • Built around the August 2, 2027 total solar eclipse, pairing a rare celestial event with a week in Andalusia. Set dates for this special UnTour: July 31-August 7, 2027
  • This is a small group UnTour (4-14 people).
  • On eclipse day, we’ll take you to a carefully selected location with a specially planned activity. Full details to come.
  • Your UnGuide accompanies you throughout, balancing curated cultural experiences with time to explore at your own pace.
  • You’ll stay in Priego de Córdoba the whole week—a real Andalusian town.

But as with every UnTour, the heart stays the same: unpack once, slow down, connect with local life and experience a place deeply.

Arrive at the airport and settle into Priego de Córdoba

¡Bienvenido/a a Andalusia! Your adventure begins in a region where centuries of cultural exchange have created a character all its own. Over the coming week, you’ll encounter grand monuments, whitewashed villages, local traditions, and landscapes shaped by generations of Andalusians—and, of course, experience one extraordinary event that will make this journey truly unforgettable.

Upon arrival at the airport, you’ll be met by your private transportation and whisked away into the Andalusian countryside. Sit back and enjoy the changing scenery as you make your way toward Priego de Córdoba, your home for the week. Surrounded by olive groves and tucked into the hills of Córdoba province, this charming whitewashed town is the perfect place to slow down and settle into the relaxed rhythm of Andalusian life.

Once you arrive, meet Pablo, your UnGuide and local connection for the week. Over your first meal together, he’ll introduce you to Priego, share some of his favorite local stories and places, and give you a preview of the experiences ahead—including the very special day you’ve come to Andalusia to experience.

The countdown to totality begins!

Discover local flavors and traditions in Priego with a traditional Andalusian cooking lesson

Today, you’ll get your first real taste of everyday life in Priego de Córdoba. Rather than simply seeing Andalusia, you’ll have the chance to experience it through one of the places where local culture comes alive every day: the market.

Join Pablo as you explore the local farmers’ market, where you’ll see seasonal produce and regional specialties while getting to know some of the people who help keep Priego’s food traditions alive. Along the way, you’ll discover how the region’s fertile landscape, olive-growing heritage, and centuries of cultural influences have shaped the Andalusian table.

Then, head to a traditional Andalusian patio for a hands-on cooking experience. Working with local ingredients, you’ll learn how to prepare some of the dishes that have been enjoyed in homes across the region for generations. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to taste, ask questions, share stories, and enjoy the fruits of your work together.

It’s an easygoing introduction to Andalusia—and a reminder that some of the best ways to understand a place are found around a market stall and a shared table.

Total Solar Eclipse: A once-in-a-lifetime Andalusian experience

Today is the day you came to Andalusia for—and one you’re unlikely to forget.

The morning begins with private transportation to a carefully selected location chosen specifically for the August 2, 2027 total solar eclipse. Accompanied by your UnGuide, you’ll settle into a special setting designed to make the most of this rare celestial event. While the exact activity and location are being finalized, every detail is being thoughtfully considered to create a memorable and meaningful experience around totality.

And then, the moment arrives. As the moon gradually passes across the sun, daylight begins to change. Shadows become strange, the temperature drops, and the landscape takes on an almost otherworldly atmosphere. For a few extraordinary minutes, the sun’s bright disk disappears completely and the solar corona becomes visible around the dark silhouette of the moon.

Once totality has passed, the day is far from over. Enjoy additional activities and a traditional Andalusian meal together, giving you the opportunity to celebrate what you’ve just experienced and share the moment with your fellow travelers.

A total solar eclipse is brief, but the memory can last a lifetime. Today, you’ll experience one of nature’s greatest spectacles in the heart of Andalusia—a truly extraordinary centerpiece to your journey.

Tour La Alhambra and savor tapas in Granada

Today brings one of Andalusia’s great cultural highlights: Granada and the magnificent Alhambra.

Travel with your UnGuide to this atmospheric city, where the legacy of the Nasrid kingdom can still be felt in its architecture, neighborhoods, gardens, and traditions. Your local expert will guide you through the Alhambra, revealing the stories behind its intricate decoration, peaceful courtyards, monumental halls, and spectacular views across Granada. More than simply a beautiful palace, the Alhambra offers a fascinating window into the final centuries of Muslim rule in Iberia.

After your visit, follow your UnGuide into the streets of Granada for one of the city’s most enjoyable traditions: tapas. Stop at a selection of local favorites to sample regional bites and perhaps enjoy a glass of wine along the way. It’s a wonderfully informal way to experience the city and see how food and social life are woven together in Andalusia.

You’ll have some additional time to enjoy Granada before making your way back to Priego de Córdoba, with the day’s history, flavors, and impressions still fresh in your mind.

Discover Ronda, perched above the Andalusian landscape

After yesterday’s celestial spectacle, today brings you back down to earth—but not without another unforgettable Andalusian setting. Travel by private transportation with your UnGuide to Ronda, one of the most dramatic and beautiful towns in southern Spain.

Perched dramatically above the deep El Tajo gorge, Ronda has inspired travelers, writers, and artists for generations. During a guided visit, you’ll discover the town’s famous Puente Nuevo, the spectacular bridge spanning the gorge, and the viewpoints that offer sweeping panoramas across the surrounding mountains and countryside.

You’ll also explore Ronda’s historic old town, where traces of its Moorish past can be found alongside Christian-era buildings and elegant squares. Discover the historic Mondragón Palace, the Plaza Duquesa de Parcent, and the impressive Santa María la Mayor, built on the site of a former mosque. Your guide will bring together the different chapters of Ronda’s history while introducing you to the legends and characters that have made the town so fascinating.

After your guided exploration, sit down together for a traditional Andalusian meal before enjoying a little more time to soak up Ronda’s atmosphere. Then relax on the journey back to Priego de Córdoba, taking in the changing landscapes of the Andalusian countryside along the way.

Guided visit to Córdoba and its ancient mosque-cathedral along with a traditional meal in a Cordobés Patio

Few places capture the idea of Andalusia as a cultural crossroads quite like Córdoba. Today, you’ll travel to this remarkable city to explore the legacy of the civilizations that helped make it one of medieval Europe’s great centers of culture and learning. With an expert local guide, step inside the breathtaking Mezquita-Catedral. Its famous forest of red-and-white arches is only the beginning of the story. As you explore the building, you’ll see how a former mosque evolved into a Christian cathedral, creating an extraordinary monument where different chapters of Córdoba’s history exist side by side.

You’ll continue through the atmospheric streets of the Jewish Quarter, with its narrow lanes, whitewashed houses, courtyards, and historic synagogue. Along the way, your guide will help connect the places you see with the people and communities who once lived here.

And there’s no better way to pause and take in Córdoba than with a meal in a traditional Cordobés patio. Surrounded by the architecture and atmosphere that make these courtyards so special, enjoy a traditional meal before having some time to explore more of the city at your own pace. Then return to Priego de Córdoba, ready for the most extraordinary day of the trip tomorrow.

Gather for a memorable farewell dinner

Every extraordinary journey deserves a proper farewell. Today is your final day in Andalusia, and after a week filled with historic cities, local traditions, unforgettable landscapes, and one spectacular moment beneath the shadow of the moon, the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Perhaps return to one of your favorite corners of Priego, pick up a few local specialties, linger over a final Andalusian lunch, or simply find a sunny plaza and enjoy the slower rhythm of the town. Your UnGuide will be available with personal recommendations for making the most of your final hours.

In the evening, gather with your fellow travelers for a special farewell dinner in Priego de Córdoba. Over one final meal, raise a glass to the places you’ve explored, the people you’ve met, and the extraordinary experience you shared together. And somewhere along the way, you may find yourself looking back at the morning of August 2 and realizing just how rare it is to experience something like that together.

Totality may have lasted only a few minutes. The memories, we hope, will last much longer.

Depart on your final day in Andalusia

Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to Andalusia. After breakfast, your UnGuide will be available to help with any final questions and make sure you’re ready for check-out and the journey ahead.

You will be picked up by private tranprtation to your departure airport, so time to say a final farewell to Priego de Córdoba as you set off toward your next destination. You’ll leave with more than memories of famous monuments and beautiful landscapes: you’ll take with you a deeper sense of the cultures, traditions, and people that make Andalusia so special. And, of course, there’s that one extraordinary memory—the sky growing dark in the middle of the day, the world briefly falling into shadow, and the sun’s corona appearing around the moon.

¡Hasta pronto, amigos y amigas! Safe travels, and may the memory of your Andalusian totality stay with you for years to come.

Reviews

Here's what our guests have to say

This trip exceeded our expectations!

★★★★★

Our host, Pablo, was awesome. The town had a wonderful sense of welcome and strong community, and is centrally located for amazing day trips. The Food & Wine week was so much fun, and our host was skilled at helping our group gel, and form warm fellowship. This trip more than met our expectations, and was another example why we continue to return to UnTours, and advocate for the UnTours approach to our friends.

What a blast in Andalusia!

★★★★★

We had an incredible time in our tour in Adalusia. We got to visit some historical landmarks like La Alhambra in Granada and the Cathedral/Mosque in Cordoba and we got to it the most delicious spanish food throughout the tour! The tapas, the cooking lesson... what a delight!

Pablo didn’t just host our trip—he created an unforgettable experience that turned eight strangers into friends.

★★★★★

Pablo, our host, was amazing. His personality is warm and sparkling, his knowledge of the area, food/restaurant selections, activities planned; the tour guides and drivers all excelled our expectations. Our group of 8 positively adored him. At our welcome dinner he took us to a restaurant where he so captivated us that we turned over all the tapas and wine selections to him. Everything was outstanding, and our group bonded like we'd been friends for years. Everything we ate and experienced was wonderful and even more so because we enjoyed Pablo and each other. In fact, one evening one group invited the rest of us to their apartment for an impromptu party.
