Attractive second floor apartment with mountain views in Meiringen

Stay in Swiss Heartland

The apartment is located on the second floor of a traditional three-family chalet in a peaceful, open area on the edge of Meiringen’s farmland. While the setting feels wonderfully tucked away, it’s just a flat, 10-minute walk to the heart of town—with easy access to excellent train and bus connections. Stroll to Meiringen’s lively main street, where you’ll find shops, cafés, bakeries, restaurants, churches, parks, and historic sites. From many vantage points, you can spot the dramatic Reichenbach Falls cascading from the snowy peaks of the Wetterhorn range down to the valley floor. The legendary Aare River flows nearby, adding to the charm of this idyllic Alpine setting.

This apartment in Meiringen is spacious and furnished in a comfortable, modern style. The bright living room includes satellite TV, DVD, radio, parquet floors, as well as a wood-burning fireplace. You will delight in the chalet’s many high-end amenities, such as chef’s kitchen with a 4-burner flat-top stove with oven, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and even granite countertops.

Breakfast, coffee or a great book can be enjoyed in a number of different spots: at the bistro-style table in the kitchen, in the outdoor communal garden or under the large enclosed porch, on your own personal balcony or in a beautiful enclosed veranda whose panoramic windows lend the chalet its name. There is also a separate dining room with seating for 6 and fine marble floor.

A special treat is an oversized corner tub in the bathroom, ideal for a relaxing steam bath after a long day of sightseeing. The bathroom also has a separate stand-up shower. The bedrooms feature parquet floors. One has a queen-size bed, and the second one a trundle bed and a sleeping loft with a double bed.

Enjoy the large garden for communal use, outdoor seating (open and covered), games room, garden grill, and children’s play area. Washer and dryer are available for guest use at no charge.

This property is ideal in combination with the Lower and Upper apartments for families or groups of friends.

Meiringen, Switzerland - Heartland, Home of Monika Middle

Meiringen, a bustling small town of 5,000, lies in a deep valley surrounded by high mountains, from which drop numerous spectacular waterfalls. Located on one of the most important and centuries-old trade routes through the Alps, Meiringen’s reputation as a tourist center started with Louis Agassiz’s scientific expedition to the Grimsel Pass in the nineteenth century and the coming of the car.

Today, it is the point of origin for more exciting Alpine bus trips than perhaps any town in Europe (Grimsel and Susten Passes, Rosenlaui and Grindelwald.) It is also the starting point for excursions to the famous Aare Gorge, formed during the last Ice Age, and the Reichenbach waterfalls. Michael’s Church is one of the most beautiful concert halls in central Europe and venue for an annual music festival in the summer.

Meiringen offers a great variety of restaurants, 2 large supermarkets, shops of all kinds, banks and ATMs, a fascinating local folk culture museum and excavations of ruins dating back to the first millennium.

If that’s not enough, an amazing number of walks, hikes and climbs originate within 30 minutes of the town and range from easy to challenging.

Meiringen is well situated as a central base for travel throughout Switzerland or as the starting point for excursions into the high Alps of the Bernese Oberland. Hourly rail service on the famed Brunig Pass line connects it in 35 minutes with the resort town of Interlaken and in 90 minutes with the city of Luzern.

"I can't imagine a more wonderful setting for our visit. Meiringen is a lovely town with accessibility to major cities. We went to Lausanne, Montreaux, Lucerne, Bern, Thun and Interlaken (many times), Murren and many points in between. What a great way to experience the cultures of Switzerland!" A. Cain

This was an exceptionally beautiful apartment we thought. Peter Jaun has taken great care to make sure this is a place of great comfort and functionality. We thought the location was fine and would stay there again if we can in the future.

Chalet Monika Middle is a fully updated apartment in a original farmstead chalet which has been in the same family for at least a hundred years. It is a perfect place for convenience and connections to wherever we wanted to go.
