Polux

Modern apartment with balcony and great mountain views in the village of Reuti

Stay in Swiss Heartland

Views, views, views! The modern Polux vacation rental is located in a new four-story apartment chalet in the picturesque alpine village of Hasliberg-Reuti. It features a quiet and sunny location with spectacular mountain views (Eiger, Wetterhörner and Engelhörner) and views of Lake Brienz down on the valley floor. Good hiking can be found right outside your door. Built in 2003, the apartment is bright, modern, tastefully furnished and very comfortable. Its ceilings and some of its walls are made of blonde wood. The kitchen, lounge and dining area are arranged in an open floor plan. There is one double bedroom and one sleeping loft that is reached via a wooden ladder and best suited for older children.

Special features are the wraparound balcony, which is furnished with a large table, chairs and an umbrella and perfect for reading and relaxing or just gazing, and a number of conveniences like TV, VCR, DVD and CD player.

An easy five-minute walk leads to the Reuti village center with a small grocery store and wonderful restaurant. An aerial gondola brings you to the transportation hub of Meiringen in the valley in just 7 minutes and is free with the local guest card. And hourly bus service to the Brünig train station is included in the Swiss Pass.

Reuti, Switzerland - Heartland, Home of Polux

The Hasliberg, a mountain, is also the name of a community made up of 4 villages: Hohfluh, Wasserwendi, Goldern and Reuti. They share one local government, one mayor, one tourist office, one community center and one bank. It is not clear exactly when the mountain was first settled, but the area developed a unique culture and personality over many centuries. In some ways, the inhabitants lived in splendid isolation, which perhaps explains why these 4 small villages appear to be right out of “Heidi.” A casual stroll through any one reveals beautiful old chalets, immaculate gardens and gentle hints of a way of life from long ago.

The Hasliberg is best described as a hiker’s paradise, with the greatest variety and concentration of outstanding walks and hikes in the Heartland. There is a wonderful walk for families with children created around the stories of “Muggestutz,” a Hasliberg dwarf. Each of the villages has at least one or two good restaurants and small grocery stores supplying basic needs, and Hofhluh also features a fine little bakery.

The post bus connects the 4 villages with the Brunig train station, which offers hourly service to the famed Bernese Oberland resort of Interlaken (45 minutes west) and the city of Luzern (75 minutes north.) An aerial tramway connects Reuti with Meiringen down in the valley every 30 minutes. Cable cars also connect Reuti to higher locations on the Hasliberg (gondolas to Kaserstatt, Bidmi, Magisalp and Planplatten).

★★★★★

We loved the Polux apartment! It was a perfect size, well appointed kitchen and very comfortable bed. Our favorite part was the large balcony with the amazing view. We appreciated Joanne letting us get in early and that she left hiking poles for us. The guest pass made transportation via the gondola to Meiringen easy and free.

This is the closest you will get to peace on earth. I have stayed in many of UnTours locations and this apartment was one of my favorites. You have everything you need and more. The best part of the day was getting home after a long day to enjoy the local wine and cheese in time for the sunset. Wait until you see the sunrise with your coffee too!

It was beautiful, more than we expected. We never did get the TV to work, but I count that as a plus!! Why on earth would you want to waste a minute looking at a TV screen when the Eiger was right out your back door?

Although we had a few concerns (the climb uphill, the double bed) the Pollux apartment in Reuti was truly terrific: clean, modern, well equipped (it even has a bed light!) Views to die for. Absolutely the best apartment we have ever had in five UnTours.

★★★★★

Pollux apartment was spectacular. This time we went for the view and did we get it. Apartment was best part of this trip - best I've ever had in six Idyll trips.

Jacqueline (caretaker) was very nice - a little work with English but BIG heart. She came unnecessarily early on departure.
