Reuti, Switzerland - Heartland, Home of Wasserfall

The Hasliberg, a mountain, is also the name of a community made up of 4 villages: Hohfluh, Wasserwendi, Goldern and Reuti. They share one local government, one mayor, one tourist office, one community center and one bank. It is not clear exactly when the mountain was first settled, but the area developed a unique culture and personality over many centuries. In some ways, the inhabitants lived in splendid isolation, which perhaps explains why these 4 small villages appear to be right out of “Heidi.” A casual stroll through any one reveals beautiful old chalets, immaculate gardens and gentle hints of a way of life from long ago.

The Hasliberg is best described as a hiker’s paradise, with the greatest variety and concentration of outstanding walks and hikes in the Heartland. There is a wonderful walk for families with children created around the stories of “Muggestutz,” a Hasliberg dwarf. Each of the villages has at least one or two good restaurants and small grocery stores supplying basic needs, and Hofhluh also features a fine little bakery.

The post bus connects the 4 villages with the Brunig train station, which offers hourly service to the famed Bernese Oberland resort of Interlaken (45 minutes west) and the city of Luzern (75 minutes north.) An aerial tramway connects Reuti with Meiringen down in the valley every 30 minutes. Cable cars also connect Reuti to higher locations on the Hasliberg (gondolas to Kaserstatt, Bidmi, Magisalp and Planplatten.)

The view from the apartment is stunning and as my first trip to Switzerland, it could not have been better. The apartment was clean and well supplied and we were very comfortable, it truly felt like home.

Having the bus two-doors down, and small grocery so close were huge plusses.

THAT VIEW!!! What a wonderful place to stay! We highly recommend it to anyone. Not much shopping in Hohfluh. We shopped in Meiringen, Brienz, and Interlaken. We enjoyed The Baren Restaurant.

Recommend highly! Margrit Künzler was exceptional. She was very friendly, helpful and willing to go that extra step. She and contacts with her family helped make our visit one of our best and enjoyable vacations ever.

★★★★★

What a great apartment! We'll be back. The hiking was amazing, and the Swiss transportation system was so easy to use and made it possible to get anywhere and everywhere. There's even plenty to do on rainy days.

Jim & Gerry Bond

★★★★★

In the last 15 years we have stayed at 12 Idyll apartments. This was by far the best, even better than the one in Wales that had a billiard room and an 11th century castle tower in the footyard.

Paula Rugen

★★★★★

The apartment itself was outstanding & the owners were wonderful.

John & Nancy Ragatz

★★★★★

The welcome food was beyond all we had in the past...staples, spices, many coffees, teas, espresso - wow! Even a bottle of wine. What an outstanding welcome and stay.
